Why Do We Like to Believe the Celebrity Hype?

What is so good about gossip? Why do we like hearing it or reading it so much, and why do we like feeding into it? Gossip is defined as idle talk or rumor, especially about the personal or private affairs of others. It is actually one of the oldest and most common means of sharing unproven facts and views, but also has a reputation for the introduction of errors and other variations into the information transmitted (wikipedia.com)The word gossip also carries implications that the news passed along usually has a personal or trivial nature, unlike that of normal conversation. In a sense, gossip isn't completely bad, being that it has the intent of fostering and building a sense of community with shared interest and information. Which brings me to the purpose of my blog. My blog followers and I share a common interest, which is celebrity news. While doing research on the topic I wasn't really able to find information on exactly why celebrity gossip is so important or interesting. I guess the reason is because as regular people, it makes us feel like we have some sort of gateway into the personal lives of our favorite celebrities. We can't personally know them so we do the next best thing which is to find information on the Internet or in magazines or television shows so we can know things about them. It makes us feel as if we have some sort of insight to their lives.

Timbaland Says "Thanks Chris, but your services are no longer needed..."

So apparently Chris Brown's vocals on a track entitled "The One I Love" was cut from Timbalands album due to the "drama" that surrounds him. Well that's not surprising at all! Timbo's manager is saying that the drop was a mutual creative decision by both artists and that there is nothing against Chris. In fact, they still love him.

(Pause.) Right. I believe that just as much as you guys do. I wonder if he also meant to release his album the same day as Brown's (December 8). Ouch. That was another low blow Tim!

What Happened Janet "Miss Jackson if you're Nasty"??

Ok so, I watched the AMAs...TOTALLY hyped for the 8 minutes of Janet performing. Sadly this wasn't the case after I watched it. I don't think her performance sucked, I just think it was...a bit tired. Her dance moves are always on point, but I was more excited watching her at the VMAs doing a tribute to her brother with the Scream video. In case you didn't catch that SHAME ON YOU! But here's a clip of it :)

DON'T MESS WITH MIKEY!!

Mikey's at it again. Just great. On November 11 the former heavyweight was at LAX with his wife and daughter when he assaulted a photographer who kept bothering him for a picture. Now Tyson is waiting to find out whether charges will be filed against him or the pesky photographer by the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office. The picture man is claiming that all he wanted was a photo of the boxer but got a nasty cut on the forehead instead. Meanwhile, Tyson's representative is sticking to his claim that Mike was being followed and intentionally provoked from terminal to terminal by the photographer. Both men were taken into custody that night but Mike was released after posting $20,000 bail.

2012 is a big box office hit grossing $65 million this weekend. The movie circles the fate of the planet in about 2 years. Apocalyse, ha! Like that'll ever happen....or will it? I think I'm scared :-/

Only in select theaters, other big hits in theaters this weekend were Precious ($6.1 million) and Fantastic Mr. Fox ($260,000).

DJ AM Wrongful Death

So it turns out that a wrongful death suit is surfacing; the company that chartered the plane carrying the late DJ AM that crashed in South Carolina is being sued for wrongful death because his people are saying that the crash ultimately caused his death. But how though? This story is almost parallel with the death of Michael Jackson. Remember back in 1984 when Jackson shot the Pepsi commercial which ended up in him suffering second-degree burns? Well many believe that the addiction to pain medications he was prescribed following the incident eventually lead to his death back in June. Similarly, TMZ.com is saying that the amended suit notes that DJ AM was "forced to take various drugs as a result of the burns he suffered, along with the emotional distress (he was known to be terrified of flying (again, just like MJ when he was a young boy!) and had to take drugs to calm his nerves whenever he flew)." Along with cocaine, his death was caused by a combination of this precription drugs. In all, the dj's estate is suing Clay Lacy Aviation, the travel service, Goodyear Tire, Learjet, and the estates of the two pilots that died in the plane crash.

Lindsay's Assistant Goes off on Michael Lohan

Listen to this phone convo between Lindsay Lohan's assistant Jenni Muro and her dad Michael Lohan (although Jenni's doing most of the talking) as she angrily gives him a piece of her mind.

Who's Got Lindsay Cryin'?

I'd probably cry to if my dad tried getting me into rehab and publicizing our private phone conversations. LiLo was spotted outside of the Crow bar in Hollywood in tears on Friday night. But apparently she was enjoying herself inside the club prior to that. Hopefully things will get better for her. Keep your head up girl!

EFF LOVE....

This is exactly what Rihanna said in her interview with Diane Sawyer this morning on Good Morning America. For the first time, the young talented pop singer spoke out about the abusive details of her relationship with Chris Brown and stated that she was "ashamed" because it's "embarassing that that's the type of person [I] fell in love with." She also encourages women in similar situations of domestic violence not to react off of love. The singer said that "love is so blind" and that this form of abuse "could happen to anybody." The 21-year-old singer realized it was a mistake that she had gone back to Chris Brown just a few weeks after he assaulted her and didn't want to send that type of message to other women who were in abusive relationships because, as she stated, "even if Chris never hit [me] again, who's to say that another guy won't hit or even kill his girlfriend after she goes back to him?" Sources from E! Online say that the full interview will air tomorrow night (Friday) on 20/20.

Rihanna Breaks her Silence

Finally, after 9 months, R&B artist Rihanna is going to speak out about her ill-fated relationship with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. Back in February we all got the reports that Brown assaulted her after a pre-Grammy party; eventually he pled guilty to felony assault. Now, according to Star Magazine she will be telling her side of the story in an interview that will air on ABC's Good Morning America on Thursday and 20/20 on Friday. Since the incident, Chris Brown has publicly apologized but she has not said anything until now. It would be interesting to tune in and hear what she has to say because everybody has heard different stories from both of their accounts.

Lil' Wayne Going....BALD?!?!

So I'm sure alot of you already heard the news that New Orleans rapper Lil' Wayne is going to jail. Last week he reportedly struck a deal with a Manhattan prosecuter by pleading guilty to attempted gun possession in exchange for a one-year prison sentence. He is allowed to remain free on his $30,000 bond for the time being, but he was ordered to surrender his passport. According to Lil' Wayne's attorney Stacey Richman who reported to E! News, this plea agreement had been in the works for some time. Well this was one of the hot topics last week. Now, MediaTakeOut.com has leaked that the rapper will have to cut off his dreads! A New York newspaper states that according to New York state law, dreadlocks are almost always forbidden. Now I'm assuming that since Wayne's dreads do not serve a religious purpose; he's not a Rastafarrian, he will in fact have to cut his off while serving his sentence. And unfortunately for him, he will look like this...be careful in there Weezy. God bless :)

Chris Brown's New Tour Plans??! Perfect Timing...

Well here's someone who's no stranger to the tabloids, especially since February of this year when he was accused of assaulting his former girlfriend, singer Rihanna. According to E! Online, just hours after she released her first solo single since the incident, Chris Brown announced that he will be going on tour, a Fan Appreciation Tour to be exact, to "thank the folks who have stood by him in the wake of his arrest and subsequent guilty plea." Anyway, the tour will be a month long starting on November 14 at the House of Blues in Houston. This will be a 19-city tour with stops in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston just to name a few. A portion of the proceeds has been reported to be going to Best Buddies International, which is an organiztaion that provides friendship, employment, and leadership opportunites to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as to LA's Jenesse Center which supports victims of domestic violence. I knew that was coming.
Well, I am not too much of a Chris Brown fan anymore since news broke out of his Ike Turner capabilities, but I'm sure alot of his fans and faithful supporters will be glad to hear of his upcoming performances. I hope his tour runs smoothly and much success to him. Stay positive Chris.

Finals Week

So, I'm sitting in the library procrastinating on writing this paper. I'm on facebook chatting with my friend, just like everybody else is in here doing. Well some people are like having a buffet with food from Webb and one guy is rubbing another guy's head. My friend and I are both asking each other how come the library is never packed until it's time for finals? Like people don't do work all semester and think that if they cram and do all their assignments the last day before final grades are posted that it's going to make up for a semester's worth of missed work. Well I can't talk cuz that's what I did in my comm 200 class and I ended up getting a B+ out the class. I was happy but then I realized that if I would have just turned in two more assignments that B+ would have been an A. Finals week is the worst. And why is the day before finals called reading day? Nobody reads. They procrastinate in the library like I am. Now it's even more packed in here. I think people just sent out mass text messages saying "What's good for tonite" and everybody responded back "the library". Well let me get started.

Inauguration Day

First off let me start by saying that I am so happy that I was able to witness history at 12:05 pm this afternoon on MSNBC as I watched Barack Obama being sworn in as the first African American president. And i'm just as happy that school was closed due to the "blizzard" so I could watch it :) I am so anxious and excited for all the changes that will come about during his years in office. I am especially looking forward to see his plans for the military and education. I am praying for our new president and i am very cinfident that he is very successful in the years to come.

I am passionate about...

I'm passionate about alot of things; my family, school, music, etc. But the thing that I am most passionate about is learning about and being successful in the entertainment industry. I'm a mass communications major and one day I want to do work in front of the camera or even have my own television show. I could also do work behind the scenes because I have some experience working behind the camera. This semester I am finally getting into my major classes and it's very exciting to me to e able to gain even more experience in something I really care about doing.
